Prof Hugo ten Cate
Professor Dr. Hugo ten Cate obtained his MD and PhD from the University of Amsterdam in 1987, followed by 15 years in research and clinical Practice (Internal medicine). In 2002 he was appointed Professor of Medicine for Clinical Thrombosis and Hemostasis at the Maastricht University. He is a member of Council of the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, chairman of the board of Netherlands Anticoagulation services and medical director of the Maastricht Thrombosis anticoagulation clinic. During his career, he has contributed to more than 230 papers in international journals and textbooks and is an editorial board member of the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Section editor of Thrombosis and Haemostasis and co-Editor-in-Chief of Thrombosis Journal. His research focuses on the pathophysiology of thrombosis and inflammation-coagulation interactions in experimental models of disease as well as in clinical studies. He currently combines clinical and experimental research in his principal investigator position in the Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht (CARIM), focusing on thrombosis in cardiovascular disease.
Open access is a critical element in dissemination of knowledge and research data throughout the world. In the field of thrombosis and haemostasis many developments are relevant, not only for the developed world, but also for those in underdeveloped nations where access to journals may be limited. The strength of Thrombosis Journal is that is can be accessed by everyone, everywhere. I strongly encourage scientists to submit their valuable data (clinical, basic research) to Thrombosis Journal, where we provide a platform for the full range of thrombosis and haemostasis related topics (also including case reports and special issue contributions).
